The Proposal
Well... usually the girl remembers this the most... so here's Natasha's version of the events:
My family is a big part of my life and as such, it was always on my list to take Zamil back to Africa to meet them all.
When we decided to finally plan a trip over the idea was to surprise my grandparents - I was thrilled when we arrived and pulled this off brilliantly! I had told Zamil of “Tony’s” for a long time, the amazing scenery in Bvumba (pronounced “Vumba”), and the best cake in the world. When he suggested we go there after surprising my grandparents on Day 1, I didn’t think twice.
It was a perfect day and as luck had it we were only the people around when we sat down. Everything lived up to the expectations I had and we started to take a walk around the gardens while we waited for our cake. We sat down on a log and I began to tell Zamil how glad I was that he came with me to Zimbabwe...
He suddenly fumbled around with his camera bag and turned around and got down on one knee and started to talk to me. I didn't really take it all in at first as the realisation of what was happening was smacking me in the face! There was no hesitation to say YES! :)
After getting sore cheeks from smiling so much... and fixing up my eye makeup from some happy tears, Zamil then went on to tell me that none of my family knew he was planning to propose. I suddenly went into overdrive thinking of how to tell them when we got back home and thought of many elaborate ways to see if they would notice the ring when I handed them the take away cake.
I was about to execute my plan perfectly when I walked in the door and suddenly my family yelled “CONGRATULATIONS” at me and I noticed the flowers, candles and decorations that they had spent the day putting up. Zamil 2 - Natasha 0! I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal and to sum it up it was the most amazing day of my life.

...and here's Zamil's:
Months of planning with her family, keeping it all a surprise, mortgaging everything I own to buy her the ring (by the way she wanted a bigger one when I sent her ring shopping), a whole lot of deception and a great welcome into her family couldn't have made this more memorable.
I need to say however, that there's one pretty important thing that Natasha doesn't remember at all... what I actually said to her when I asked her to marry me. And thank God because it was some pretty soppy stuff. I'm sure the aunties would all be pinching my cheeks saying how cute I was if they found out. Not to mention all the crap I'd get from the boys LOL.
I do feel bad though... that Natasha's family now like me more than her. What can I say... that's just the way it is :p
